Finally finished after six years of development, Abobo’s Big Adventure features a huge variety of classic NES characters, some so minor and forgettable that you may not recognize them. Abobo himself is a boss from the beat-em-up Double Dragon. The game uses these icons as fodder for Abobo’s relentless appetite for destruction and chaos. The first level, a basic side-scrolling beat-’em-up stage, has you punting Goombas across the screen, wailing on enemies from Kung Fu and eating the heads of little girls from River City Ransom.
