The best flash game I’ve played since PopTenGuy Jamie’s opus Spectre, this game requires only one of your fingers and absolutely all of your attention. It’s one of those rare minimalist games that gets every aspect absolutely right. Pulsing techno soundtrack? Check. Special agent in an 8-bit tuxedo? Check. Fantastic physics and momentum? Check mate.
This reaffirms my faith that indie games are the new indie movies, and are about to play David to their Goliath.
Check out Canabalt here.
It plays right in your browser, so you have no excuse…
The giant robots wandering through the background really make it for me. Nicely done, canabalt.
I played to about 2500 meters, and didn’t see any sort of end or change, which is a shame. On the upside though, the levels seem like they’re randomly generated, so you should get a different experience every time.
A nice similar project, sort of a godfather to this game, is Pixeljam’s Dino Run. Not quite as stylish, but completely worth a play.
