The Weekly Theoretical: Unidentified Flying Pigs
The recent epidemic of the “Swine Flu” has rekindled a concept I’ve long been in the process of pondering; viruses. What the hell are they? Where do they come from? How is it that all these new viral infections arise at the most (in)appropriate of times? Is a virus living?
It’s something we should be more informed of and equally more curious about. And so we delve, deep into the body, past the mind onward through to the smallest individually living parts of our bodies; cells.“A virus (from the Latin virus meaning toxin or poison) is a sub-microscopic infectious agent that is unable to grow or reproduce outside a host cell. Viruses infect all cellular life.” (Wikipedia)
Sounding familiar to anyone yet? I’ll give you a hint; actually, I already did (in the title). Extra-terrestrials? Yeah, I know I can be paranoid, but like the good old boy scout always says, “the paranoid man is one that is always prepared.” Don’t discount this possibility yet. Yes, among other things, I think this super man-like intelligent force we’ve been looking, hoping for could be in the tip of our own nose.
Aliens take shape to what the minds of the imaginative have portrayed and the so-called experienced have told us. For aliens to be presumably humanoid is a coincidence, but we believe it naturally, because it’s easy. So for you that may be biased in your alien fascination or just don’t believe at all; release all your notions and go with me here for a second.
An alien life-form can take any shape (or lack there of). It could be the ground you walk on, the car you drive to work or even the shape-shifting clouds you assimilate to common objects(hmmm…weather=aliens?). In terms of this theory, aliens could very well be another unknown entity to man; the virus.
“The origins of viruses are unclear: some may have evolved from plasmids—pieces of DNA that can move between cells—others may have evolved from bacteria.” (Wikipedia)
It’s amazing how we don’t know where these arguably living entities came from, yet they affect us all so much on a daily basis. Amazingly, a virus can only survive by hosting on living cells and on a larger scale this means our bodies and the bodies of your friends and family.
“Viral populations do not grow through cell division, because they are acellular; instead, they use the machinery and metabolism of a host cell to produce multiple copies of themselves, and they assemble in the cell.” (Wikipedia)
It seems more likely to me that the ingenious tactics of the alien species to dominate mankind could easily be achieved through this viral technique. The structure and biological technology encompassing a virus and how it works easily surpasses the technology man has so far developed. Pretty much all machinery and gadgetry has come from studies of nature and the body. Unfortunately, we are far from equating the insane engineering of the body and it’s predecessors.
A virus in it’s nature is synonymous with the definition of the word alien. It is foreign, it is incompatible, it is unknown.
No matter the shape, size or population of the alien race, it seems we are mostly fearful of the overbearing intentions of such a possible being. We must not fear though, because as the human species we will overcome (or so our ignorance teaches us). We fight for our lives that many of us know not what to do with, but none-the-less we fight and try to survive. What better weapon to use against the alien over-takers than themselves.
“Vaccines can consist of live-attenuated or killed viruses, or viral proteins (antigens). Live vaccines contain weakened forms of the virus that causes the disease.”
Whatever the case may be and whatever the proclaimed alien race looks like, I truly believe and encourage all to be very open. Not just in the sense that aliens may exist and may be kind loving creatures (even though nature is truly deadly and brutal), but more so in the sense that anything could be this foreign entity we know next to nothing of. The water you drink, the air you breathe, the life you live; could all be part of your next extra-terrestrial encounter. The search for life on other planets has been so naive and strict in accordance with our laws of nature and life, but what if…
What if…all we know here is merely a fragment of a puzzle where every individual piece constitutes its own entire plethora of rules, laws, or even ideas. This is more than just theory; it’s the natural freedom of the mind. Flow with it-
