WTF Congress

I’m really fucking tired of Congressmen talking shit about Obama because he hasn’t changed the culture of Washington. GUESS WHAT GUYS! YOU ARE THE CULTURE OF WASHINGTON! Do you come into my house, smash my windows, and then complain about the cold!? Get the fuck outta here. Of course the culture of Washington is fucked. We’ve got a bunch of hypocritical motherfuckers who complain about the paralyzed state of our system while they shove crowbars into the gears. There is a simple question: what the fuck are you doing about it? How are you going to help me, your employer, make this system work better!? Or are you going to cry and whine like a little fucking school boy and argue about who started it?

There is open revolt in Iran right now. I have seen it. For the last two days videos of the people asserting their freedom in the face of tyranny have appeared on youtube. The online video sharing site is a bastion for freedom. Iranians may not have the freedom of speech, but they speak. The government is powerless silence them.…

Top Ten Political Snafus of the Decade

What a decade it has been for the political.  From “Captain Earth-melt” Al Gore conceding the 2000 election to George W. Bush and the subsequent butchery of the English language that followed, to an historic 2008 Presidential campaign, tea baggers, and an aura of tomfoolery that grasped onto our politicians and just would not let go.  The 00s had it…

Blackwater – Our Very Own Corrupt Christian Crusaders

By Chris Baily

Well, the shit might be finally hitting the fan for Blackwater – the NY Times released an article today outlining a plot to cover up the Nisour Square massacre by bribing Iraqi officials:

WASHINGTON — Top executives at Blackwater Worldwide authorized secret payments of about $1 million to Iraqi officials that were intended to silence their criticism and buy their support after a…

Obama Night in Times Square

By Peter Brauer

November 4, 2009 Originals No Comments

One year ago today America changed forever.  I was near Times Square when Obama was projected the winner.  We decided to check out the scene.  What I saw opened my heart and made it sing. The universal joy and sense of mutual accomplishment was astounding.  This is a video I made with the highlights of the night.  Three young black…

Obama’s first year…a fair critique

By Jason Reynolds

John H. Richardson weighs in on Obama’s first year. Brilliant and thoughtful. (Swipe from Esquire Magazine)

I have figured out The Problem With America Today. My inspiration was the recent one-year-later cover of Newsweek, which encapsulates the current conventional wisdom about President Obama in a single headline: YES HE CAN (BUT HE SURE HASN’T YET). Or, as Saturday Night Live put it,…

Rent is too Damn High Party FTW

Last week I stumbled on one of most revolutionary political parties in New York.  It is called the Rent is too Damn High Party.  One look at the web page, and I was sold.  Jimmy McMillian (pictured above), a self avowed investigator and activist, is running for mayor of New York.  He will be officially on the ballot against Bloomberg…

Fight for Equality…

We all deserve equality, why is this even a fight?  And yet, I find myself gearing up for a trip down to Washington DC to fight for my rights.  It has taken me quite awhile to even dream of being politically active.  I seemed quite content with the world as it was, oddly sheltered both in Chicago and now in…

The Future of Information

Matt Ellsworth and I met while making Second Skin, a documentary I directed on virtual worlds. He’s one of the boys from Indiana who loves to game. Our conversations over the years have led to a few things, one of them was finding a common love for Johnnie Walker Black Label, and the second was a penchant for postulating about…

Top Ten Geek Anthems: the Geekiest Songs in the Universe

The geek have officially inherited the Earth, as was prophesied in Psalms 37:7 (more or less) so many bearded men ago.  It’s a fairly recent thing, having happened somewhere between Google’s ascent to ubiquity, the second installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the eyebrow-raising popularity of Weird Al’s White & Nerdy. And since history is told by the…

Condescending Creature Smackdown: Ewoks vs. Na’vi

How much does James Cameron ride George Lucas’ dick? Only enough to base an entire movie, Avatar, on the final battle sequence from the last good film in the Star Wars franchise, Return of the Jedi. Each film has its ragtag band of native creatures, each film pits basic bush weaponry against mechanized slaughter machines, each film has exploding trees.…

Top Ten Television Shows of the Decade

Come with me, friends, to another time. Let’s say 1998ish. Ross and Rachel rule the airwaves, ER is hailed as the Best Drama Evar. As the sun sets on Seinfeld, critics mourn its passing, proclaiming that we’re not likely to see a show of its brilliance ever again.

I watched an episode of Seinfeld yesterday. It’s still funny, despite the canned…

Top Films of the Decade

I sincerely hope I made every attempt to be fair and honest and if I left off a film you love, please know that it was not with malice and there are only ten spots.  I even split them into two genres because taking any of these off the list kind of made my heart hurt.  Also, feel free to…
