Friday Round-Up!

Happy rainy NYC Friday to you all! The Oscars are over, but there are still reasons for life to go on! I hope that you enjoyed our little taste of spring time this week. I’m watching NY1 right now and they’re saying its’ going to rain all weekend but be semi-cloudy next week so that’s not too bad.

Speaking of NY1…

Oh no! Corey Haim Has Passed Away!

Early this morning, possibly drugs. I have a soft spot in my heart for Corey. His full page “I’m ready to work” ad in Variety a few years ago broke my heart. I loved him in “Lucas” and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed his “I don’t do drugs” video several times. I hate reporting this crap. RIP man.

Happy Oscar Friday Pop-tenners! How The Market is closed on Good Friday and not on Oscar Friday is totally beyond me! We need time to prepare! Get fancy dresses, bottles of champagne for drinkin’ and bottles of shampoo for acceptance speech practicin’! I won a scented candle in Oscar Bingo last year and I’ve already picked my favorite for “Sound…

Character Approved Awards 2010

jcpe: Last Thursday, in the middle of our second blizzard this year, Hawkes and I went to the Character Approved Awards down around the art galleries in Chelsea.

me: First, I love USA (the station not the country, well I guess they’re both good). We got the invite and I jumped out of my chair with excitement. Second, I love seeing…

Friday Round Up!

It’s snowing yet again! I’m aware that the weather varies from year to year, but sheesh what a hard winter. Someone told me that the Chinese Almanac said we were going to get round-house kicked by snow this winter, seems to be on the mark.

1. Oh, speaking of China and kicking… I cried a little at the new Karate Kid trailer…

Girls Are Smarter Than Boys!

Well. Duh.

But now it’s official!

The contest was staged on a global stage, in nine languages, lasted for five months and saw some 15,121,731 questions asked and answered – although not all of them correctly.

The balance of power shifted repeatedly between the sexes, which were sometimes just a few correct answers apart, but ended with the women clinching victory.
They answered 4,088,139…

Happy Friday Dear Friends!

There were only 4 days of perusing the internets for me this week (Seriously, I didn’t even open my laptop on Monday, which is so super out of character. Here’s the buzz from this week (Juan’s pressuring me to find ten things, I’ll get there eventually!)

Let’s begin, shall we?

1. There are few things in life that guarantee…

Friday Round-Up

I don’t usually do this (obviously) but the longest week ever has come to a close and this morning I found myself flipping through a Lucky Magazine on the train and I saw an ad for these shoes and I thought to myself “Wow, I love those.” Which may very well be the final sign of the snowpocalypse.

So here are a few…

A huge loss.

McQueen’s mother died last Tuesday and it’s speculated that grief drove him to commit suicide. So incredibly sad.

Movie Reviews of Movies I Haven’t Seen: Cop Out

Holy Mother of Jackie Chan, yes. I’m sort of angry at everyone I know that nobody took the time to alert me that this trailer was available. It wasn’t until this week when I turned the corner on my way to work  and saw the three story ad boasting “Rock Out with Your Glock Out” that I knew we had…

The Future of Information

Matt Ellsworth and I met while making Second Skin, a documentary I directed on virtual worlds. He’s one of the boys from Indiana who loves to game. Our conversations over the years have led to a few things, one of them was finding a common love for Johnnie Walker Black Label, and the second was a penchant for postulating about…

Top Ten Geek Anthems: the Geekiest Songs in the Universe

The geek have officially inherited the Earth, as was prophesied in Psalms 37:7 (more or less) so many bearded men ago.  It’s a fairly recent thing, having happened somewhere between Google’s ascent to ubiquity, the second installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the eyebrow-raising popularity of Weird Al’s White & Nerdy. And since history is told by the…

Condescending Creature Smackdown: Ewoks vs. Na’vi

How much does James Cameron ride George Lucas’ dick? Only enough to base an entire movie, Avatar, on the final battle sequence from the last good film in the Star Wars franchise, Return of the Jedi. Each film has its ragtag band of native creatures, each film pits basic bush weaponry against mechanized slaughter machines, each film has exploding trees.…

Top Ten Television Shows of the Decade

Come with me, friends, to another time. Let’s say 1998ish. Ross and Rachel rule the airwaves, ER is hailed as the Best Drama Evar. As the sun sets on Seinfeld, critics mourn its passing, proclaiming that we’re not likely to see a show of its brilliance ever again.

I watched an episode of Seinfeld yesterday. It’s still funny, despite the canned…

Top Films of the Decade

I sincerely hope I made every attempt to be fair and honest and if I left off a film you love, please know that it was not with malice and there are only ten spots.  I even split them into two genres because taking any of these off the list kind of made my heart hurt.  Also, feel free to…
