Five Year Flashback: Top Ten Songs I Was Listening To – May 2007 Edition

May 2007 was the first time since I started making mixes in January 2004 that the core set of songs did not fit on a single CD. It was also the first time I started adding in comments before the track listing, so from here on out, if you’re lucky, you may get old school musings here as well.

Comments from 2007:
here is may, coming to you one full day early. you will notice it is over my usual max of fitting on a cd by 7:19. but as i was reminded of over the weekend, a playlist doesnt have to fit on a cd to be a mix. so i’ve decided to be okay with it long. also, if you dont already own it, you should think about buying the whole andrew bird album. it is awesome. in the actual definition of awesome kind of awesome.

Comments from 2012:
-We listened to that Adam Ant song for hours on end at sleepover camp, though I have no idea for the life of me why it was significant 12 years after that.
-I really like this Jonatha Brooke song, it was originally the first song on the mix.
-Lily Allen was the last one. A mix bookmarked by two great females, when so much of what I listened to back then was male vocal-led bands. Also, I love that the song Alfie is totally an upbeat happy fun song about being a stoner. It reminds me of music that should be played on a country fair carousel.
-The Paolo Conte song was in a Coke commercial. It was a pretty awesome one actually. Watch it here.
-I know my old comments said to go buy Andrew Bird’s album, and I stand by that, but he is featured plenty over the next few months, so check for my favorite song next month.
