Dream Machine
By Hawkes Klein
I am freaking out!
Last night I was talking with some friends about dreams… and one goes “yeah I have that dream that everyone has where you miss class because you’ve forgotten that you were registered for it until a few weeks into it.” Then the other goes “yeah everyone has that, it’s documented!”
HOLY CRAP. I have that dream about once a month for sure! After waking up it takes a few seconds to orientate myself and think “ok ok I have my degrees, I’m done with school there’s nothing I could have missed.” I had no idea it was a dream that a lot of people have! Ie: I googled “dream of being late for class” and a blogger wrote this:
In fact, it’s 3/4 through the semester, and you’ve completely forgotten to attend that class, and it’s too late to make up the work for the class, and way too late drop the class, so you’re fucked. Sometimes it’s that you forgot you registered for the class. Sometimes it’s that the class moved and you just never bothered to find it again. Sometimes you just didn’t go at first, because you thought the class would be easy, but then got carried away with skipping it to the point where you never attended the class.
HOLY CRAP YES YES EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you guys have this?

Strangely enough, I never had the dream in relation to college. I still have it like once a year about high school though. My high school had a rotating period that would take the place of a different period each day…to this day I still have dreams about missing it and forgetting to go to gym class too. When I wake up it takes me a minute to remember I am 28 and haven’t even set foot in that school in almost 10 yrs.
I have this dream all the time (in fact I think I had a variation on it last night, although I don’t remember it too well) Sometimes it’s high school and I realize I’ve been skipping class too much and I’m supposed to go to school but I realize that the teacher has never met me and I’m too scared to go. Sometimes it’s college exactly like yours and I realize I haven’t gone to class all semester and missed enough tests and papers that I can’t pass. In the high school ones, I’m always convinced that I can’t graduate (the class is usually english – a required course) and therefore my college degree will be invalidated. It sucks. And it takes at least five to ten minutes after I wake to realize I never have to go to school and worry about this again.
This is one reason why I don’t want to go to grad school…
